DATCU Support of Schools and Universities Leaves a Lasting Impact
DATCU Continues Nearly 90-Year Commitment to Education Through Investments in Local Schools and Universities
DENTON, Texas – DATCU continues to demonstrate its longstanding commitment to education through significant investments in local school districts and higher education institutions across North Texas.
Since its founding in 1936, as a credit union for educators, making a positive difference for teachers, students, and school districts has been central to DATCU's mission. Over the past decade, the credit union has contributed more than $9.5 million to support educational initiatives and programs throughout the communities it serves, including Denton, Lewisville, Aubrey, Sanger, and Lake Dallas Independent School Districts. These investments reflect DATCU's dedication to strengthening educational opportunities and supporting student success in the communities where its members live, learn, and work.
"Education has always been a cornerstone of who we are as an organization," said Melanie Vest, DATCU’s President and CEO. "From our roots serving educators to our ongoing partnerships with local schools and universities, we believe investing in education is one of the most meaningful ways we can create lasting impact in our communities."
In 2023, DATCU made its largest educational investment to date, entering into a 15-year, $21.5 million athletic partnership with the University of North Texas (UNT). The landmark agreement further strengthened the credit union's connection to the university and its commitment to supporting students throughout their educational journeys.
Building on that partnership, DATCU expanded its support in 2026 through a gift to the Student Money Management Center Powered by DATCU at UNT. The credit union committed $200,000 annually to support the center's mission of providing personalized financial literacy education and resources for students. Through one-on-one coaching, budgeting assistance, and financial wellness programs, the center helps students develop critical money management skills and confidently navigate real-world financial challenges.
"Financial literacy is essential to lifelong success," said Tommy White, SVP of Marketing. "By supporting the Student Money Management Center, we're helping students build the knowledge and confidence they need to make informed financial decisions both during college and beyond."
As DATCU approaches nine decades of service, the credit union remains committed to investing in educational opportunities that empower students, strengthen schools, and contribute to the long-term prosperity of the North Texas communities it proudly serves.
